Field Trip Holiday Party - It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play
Broadway debut of one of America's most-produced plays, featuring Andrew Rannells and Megan Hilty in a 1940s radio broadcast, complete with live sound effects and a festive Field Trip holiday party before the show.
Field Trip Holiday Party - It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play
This is the Broadway debut of a play that has become a holiday institution. Joe Landry's radio play adaptation premiered in 1996 and has since been named one of the ten most-produced plays in the United States by American Theatre Magazine. After three decades at community theaters and regional houses, it arrives at the Broadhurst for a nine-week run starring Andrew Rannells, Megan Hilty, and Tituss Burgess.
The premise is simple: you are in the live studio audience of a 1940s radio broadcast. Five actors perform dozens of characters. A foley artist creates the sound effects in real time. There are vintage commercials and holiday carols during the breaks. The story is George Bailey's, a man who has spent his life putting others first and, in a moment of crisis on Christmas Eve, discovers just how much one person can mean to the people around him.
This is also Field Trip's holiday party! We're getting NYC's theater fans together for a proper holiday night out, and we're making this one a little bigger than our usual Field Trips. We'll start with a festive happy hour near the theater, plenty of familiar faces (and hopefully some new ones), and a chance to celebrate another year of seeing great things together. Then we'll head to the show for a little holiday magic in Bedford Falls.
Whether you've been on ten Field Trips or this is your first, consider this your invitation to celebrate the season with some very good company.

Where are the seats?
We’re spread across the Broadhurst for this one, with groups in the Orchestra (rows K through S) and the Mezzanine (rows G through L).
Where’s the happy hour?
Mister Fogg’s, a new spot a short walk from the theater. Since it’s the holiday party, we’re giving it a little more time than usual.
Is food included?
Yes, your ticket covers food at happy hour. Drinks are on your own tab, so bring a card and order whatever feels festive.
Why this show?
Joe Landry’s radio play has been a holiday staple at theaters across the country for three decades, and this is the first time it’s played Broadway. Jerry Zaks directs a cast led by Andrew Rannells, Megan Hilty, and Tituss Burgess. It’s also hard to think of a better story for a holiday party than one about a whole town showing up for one person.
