Two Girls + Playdate Happy Hour
The team behind Dad Don't Read This, the sold-out Times Critic's Pick, returns with a world premiere at A24's Cherry Lane.
Two Girls + Playdate Happy Hour
Some plays you want to sit with for a minute. This is that minute, extended into a happy hour.
We're trying a new format, but with the same good company. This Field Trip is a Playdate hosted by Joanne Won: we'll meet up briefly before the show starts, then after the curtain falls, head to a spot nearby for a happy hour built for one thing: an intimate, guided conversation about what we just watched.
We're seeing Two Girls at Cherry Lane Theatre, a new play inspired by the infamous "2 Girls 1 Cup" video (yes, that one). It's not what you think. Playwright Eliya Smith uses verbatim dialogue from the video to build a strange, funny, unflinching two-hander about sex, disgust, and the body, and about why we can't look away. It's exactly the kind of show that demands a conversation after.
Smith is having a year. Her Off-Broadway debut, Grief Camp, premiered at Atlantic Theater Company. Then her follow-up, Dad Don't Read This, sold out and extended at St. Luke's, transferred to Greenwich House Theater, and picked up a New York Times Critic's Pick. Now, Two Girls is her world premiere at Cherry Lane, developed with The Goat Exchange, the experimental company run by Chloe Claudel and Mitchell Polonsky.
Come for the show. Stay for the conversation. Leave with new thoughts and new friends!

Where are the seats?
We sit together. Cherry Lane's main stage is one of the most intimate houses in the city, so every seat gets you close to the work.
Do people usually come by themselves?
Yes. Most people book a spot for themselves and meet the rest of the group at happy hour.
How long does the event last?
The show has yet to announce a runtime. We'll plan to hang together afterward for about an hour.
Why this show?
Eliya Smith and Chloe Claudel had one of the breakout Off-Broadway plays of the spring, and this is the first thing they've done since. It's a world premiere at Cherry Lane, which A24 reopened after a century as New York's oldest Off-Broadway house.
Content note:
Two Girls takes as its subject a notorious 2000s shock video and includes frank discussion of graphic sexual content and bodily material. It is a provocation on purpose.
